Strap winches are one of the oldest cargo control devices still in use today on most commercial trucks. They consist of a simple steel frame with a rotating mandrel in the center. One end of the mandrel has a gear that rotates and is held in position by a pivoting gear tooth pin. The opposite end of the mandrel has open slot holes that the user places a winch bar into to turn the mandrel and tighten the strap. There are any different types of trailer winches including low profile types for limited clearance applications, storable winches that allow the user to store a full 30' winch strap in the winch for transportation, and adjustable sliding type winches that mount in sliding winch track to allow the user to position each winch accordingly depending on the load.
